Symbols, Numbers, Distances by Herb Kauderer

Symbols, Numbers, Distances
Herb Kauderer

nerve-wracking blackout
strange sky lights above city
Milky Way shimmers

Freudian theories
  atrophy when a rocket
is just a rocket

a wildlife refuge
gathered children gape in awe
in the box, a mouse

Tippler’s future

Tippler’s future
  renders us holograms
at least HD I hope

chances of survival

three-legged crewman
cannot fathom captain’s words
“the odds are even”

kids will play

gravity still low
terraformed Mars grows trees tall
kids parachute down

failed leg count

six legged robot
assesses native lifeforms
dismisses humans
