Renfield by Eric S Brown

Renfield is a horror comedy with some serious teeth. It tells the story of Dracula’s familiar Renfield in the modern world. Renfield is attending a support group for those stuck in unhealthy relationships and trying to make amends for the sins of his past. He longs to be the hero of his story and not just another victim of the Count. The film lost a rather hefty amount at the box office and is consider to be a flop but don’t write it off. Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage both deliver incredible performances. Hoult manages to bring some heart to the character of Renfield and Cage is just as over the top as ever.

As Dracula heals from his latest encounter with vampire slayers, Renfield uses the superhuman strength and speed granted to him as a familiar in an attempt to become
a sort of superhero. A very powerful crime family and an incorruptible cop enter the
mix, leading to tons of blood shed and intense, well shot action scenes.

If you’re looking for a straight up vampire horror flick, The Last Voyage of the Demeter is likely more to your liking, but if you’re merely looking for a fun movie full of action, humor, and gore (yes, gore and a lot of it!) then Renfield is a must see.
