It was Midnight
The Grandfather clock chimed twelve times
1…2….3….4…5….6…..7…..8…..9……10……11…..12
Lily was fast asleep,
Her husband Charles snored away
Her teenage son Lester was on his iPad,
researching ghosts and goblins
Her little girl Nina was fast asleep,
Her little Teddy Bear, Sugar
right beside her,
then the rattling began,
The rattling in the walls,
The ghost had arrived
You could hear him singing
“Oh Susannah”
then he called out the words
In Edgar Allan Poe’s poem
“The Raven”
“Take thy beak from out my heart,
And take thy form from off my door”
Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore”
Lester heard the ghost
He called out to him
“Who are you?”
“I be Sebastian Barrington IV and this is my house!”
“We live here now Sebastian,” answered Lester
not even frightened of the ghost,
“What year might it be good fellow?”
“2024”
“Eh, that’s a lot of years since me walked the Earth.
Me perished in the Year of the Lord 1901.”
The ghost faded but his voice could be heard in the walls

“Nevermore”

Was quiet for a few nights
But then at last he reappeared,
Lester heard him calling out again,
“I be here! I shalt not go!
Ye shalt be my friend”
“Hey cool, me and a ghost,
And a hip ghost too!”
“We shalt be together forever,” sighed the
Spirit of Sebastian Barrington IV
