The Path of the Hand by Marco Herrigan

In a state of ignorance profound, I attempt to follow
An unnamed hand while the depths of my soul remain
hollow.

Each time I see prints of the hand on surface of
desert sand,
I fail to keep track of a force that I cannot
understand.

In a matter of seconds, the prints of the hand
disappear
As memories fade to traces of residue
unclear.

Thoughts of confusion pile up into the depths
of my head
As I wander without knowing where my legs
should tread.

Upon hearing the wind, I turn in the other
direction
And see my ignorance as no more than an
infection.

I continue to wander through the desert without
knowing
Where to follow the hand’s path when the wind
stops blowing.

Without warning, a gush of wind blows
into my face
As I see no reward nor punishment ending
in disgrace.

When awareness returns to me, I find myself
on a hill
And see the long distance below me as the
world is still.

Today, I see the hand’s path and power that have
ensued
While my mind remains week as someone who has
been subdued.
