Louie is Lost in a Cave
Officer Peter Carillo radioed to his dispatch unit. “Dispatch, this is Officer Carillo. My father Louie has been taken away by a snow monster from Uranus. Apparently, my dad—being the helpful, kind soul he is—wants to help this alien creature. I’m going to go search for him. I’ll report back as soon as I find him. Over and out.”
“Officer Carillo, we’ll send back-up to assist you in case the alien is dangerous and armed,” said Officer Petrocelli, the Dispatch Sergeant.
“Thank you, Frank. I’ll need back-up.”
“No problem, Peter. They’re on their way.”
Officer Peter Carillo trudged through the woods, the snow coming down in blinding sheets while he searched for his father who could be anywhere in this vast wooded area. He heard an owl hooting in the tree not far from him. He also heard the loud cawing of a coyote and he could smell a fox not too far away. Peter shined his big bright flashlight and looked about. No sign of his dad. Where could he be? And where was this monster? Peter kept trudging along and kept his laser gun as well as his service pistol, a Glock 17, in his holster.
Far out in the forest, Louie and the snow monster, Jezi from Uranus had made a fire in a cave and were sitting down to drink the coffee from Uranus which Jezi had brought with him and a piece of fish from a pond there in Maine that Jezi had fished out earlier in the day.
“Now what sort of minerals do you need, Jezi? As for food we have plenty of food here in Maine and we can load your spaceship up with lots of goodies like bread, milk, butter, soda, pasta, sauce, cheese, ravioli, soup, apple pie, and on and on, lots of good food. As for fuel, we can give you oil, gasoline, but maybe you’re looking for nuclear energy. Folks here can help you with solar energy; other folks can help you with fuel cells; and other folks in other parts of the country can provide you with an energy source from the volcanoes—those are out on the Hawaiian Islands—very far from us here in Maine. As for minerals, well, what sort of those are you looking for?”
“We are searching for magnesium, phosphorous and calcium for better health for our Uranians, and we know Earth and Earthlings have plenty of these minerals,” explained Jezi.
“Yes, quite right, Jezi. We do have an abundance of all those minerals, and they are included in a lot of foods to keep people healthy,” agreed Louie.
“The kind of energy we need would cost you Earthlings here a lot of your money to transport all the way to Uranus—same thing with the minerals we need and the food we need. But we need to hide out here for now till we can figure out how I can get access to everything I need. And there are some other things I need—like uranium, titanium and nitrogen,” announced Jezi.
“Hmm. There are other places here in America where we’d have to get all this. It will take a lot of time; a lot of phone calls; negotiating; traveling; and of course, money and legal stuff is involved,” said Louie, now secretly realizing he was in over his head with this snow monster from Uranus.
What do I do, thought Louie. He wished his wife, Margaret, were here in the cave to tell him what to do. She always knew how to figure things out better than him. Margaret was logical. He wasn’t. He hoped his son, Peter would find him. This was all too much for him. Too much for his brain as well. He wished he were sitting on his couch at home watching Murder, She Wrote. Oh, Lord, deliver me.
Jezi watched Louie. He wondered what this friendly yet somewhat less than knowledgeable man was thinking. Jezi knew now he had picked himself a loser to help him out. Clearly, Louie was not equipped to help him get all the materials he needed. But oh, dear, what should he do with this Earthling? Jezi pondered crafty ways to get rid of Louie.

Meanwhile, Officer Peter Carillo neared the cave where Louie and the snow monster from Uranus, Jezi hid. The other officers had arrived, and they all combed the woods in search of Louie Carillo and the alien. The snow had turned to sleet and the ground became harder to walk on as their feet sank into more than a foot of snow. Peter saw the light from the fire that his dad and the snow monster had lit in their cave. He approached slowly.
The other officers spotted him and trudged through the wet snow, their faces cold, their teeth chattering. The police dog barked. Peter went inside the cave where he found his father slouched over, blood dripping from his forehead. There was no sign of the mysterious monster. But there was some kind of tablet on the floor of the cave. Peter picked it up and looked through it. Everything was in an alien language. He noted two huge specimens that appeared to be shoes.
His father was groggy but managed to speak. “Jezi got away. He knocked me on the head with some hammerlike object. Help me, son,” said Louie.
“Don’t worry Dad. I’ll get you to the hospital and we’ll find this snow monster.”
Officer John Dobson arrived at the opening of the cave “It’s going to be a long night, boys.”
